Frequently
Asked Questions
-
I
am new to the area. What's a good way to get involved
at a Multipurpose Center?
What activities you participate in and how often are up
to you! Signing up for monthly day trips, lunch & learn
programs or ongoing interest activities are good ways
to meet new Seniors like yourself, and wonderful ways
to get you started. Call the Centers for specific details
and join the fun!
-
I wish to participate in Multipurpose
Center activities. Do I need to use the one nearest my
house?
No, Seniors (age 55 and above) are welcome to
participate in trips, classes, special events and designated
ongoing activities at any of the five Multipurpose Centers.
For a map showing the location of each Multipurpose Center
available, please refer to our facilities
page.
- Do you have dances at the Multipurpose Centers?
Most Multipurpose Centers host occasional evening dances.
Some of the Centers have dance clubs that meet at their
facilities regularly. Check with the Center nearest you
for a schedule.
- Do you have pool tables at the Multipurpose Centers?
Currently the Multipurpose Centers that have pool tables
are Windy Hill, West Cobb, East Cobb, and Freeman Poole.
They are available for use from 8:3A.M. - 4:30P.M, M-F,
unless there is a pre-arranged class or program.
-
How
do you decide where to put the Centers and when to enlarge
them?
The Atlanta Regional Commission provides us with demographics
based on census information. In addition, we periodically
do zip code studies of those who attend the facilities.
Land availability is also an important factor. When a facility
is consistently filled to capacity we explore funding sources
and spend the funds where the need is the greatest.
-
Are
the Multipurpose Centers available for rent to non-senior
groups?
The Center's are available for senior groups to use as a
meeting space based upon availability of rooms and dates,
during regular business hours. The Centers are not available
for private parties or non-senior groups. An application
for rental or room reservation is to be filled out and returned
to the Center, where availability will be checked by the
facility coordinator.
- Do I need the Senior Day Center or another center?
The Senior Day Center is an adult day care center. Clients
are offered medical monitoring, some nursing care, personal
assistance, and participation in recreational programs and
interaction with other adults. It allows the caregiver the
opportunity to remain employed or to have a respite.
Individuals who would benefit from the Senior Day Center
may suffer from physical limitations and/or memory loss.
For example, physical limitations can be related to strokes,
arthritis, and osteoporosis. Some participants need medical
monitoring due to chronic illnesses including diabetes,
congestive heart failure, Parkinson’s disease, and depression.
Clients may have hearing or visual impairments. Individuals
with memory loss may have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease,
stroke related dementia, or other types of dementia.
- Do you provide transportation outside of Cobb
County?
No.
-
Do
you provide transportation to the Multipurpose Centers?
No. The Multipurpose Centers do not meet the qualification
criteria of the grant programs, such as transportation.
-
Is
there a membership fee required to belong to a Multipurpose
Center?
No. Cobb's Multipurpose Centers do not require Seniors age
55 to pay any membership fees. Many Centers have honor libraries,
pool tables and classes available to drop in at no charge.
Some other activities, trips or programs are fee based.
